Web Work Summary
Simple Projects
I worked on BlackPast.org in an HTML maintenance capacity, with Grip Media. My intentions were to do grunt work (web monkey) to help myself become more familiar with working on a web team, as well as the software and procedures involved.
I also ran a simple HTML page for many years, called South Africans Abroad, which I no longer maintain. In many ways that page taught me what not to do, mostly through my own mistakes, and it was far from ideal when I left it.
GrantKruger.com
This page was originally designed by Theresa Pridemore, director of Pridemore Design. I wanted to show that I could work as a programmer with a professional designer. She did most of the baseline CSS and HTML, but I have made changes to both, with her approval. I have done all of the HTML for the content on each page.
I have used PHP throughout this page. I use PHP functions to simplify site-wide changes by keeping all common HTML in a central place. My Contact Me page was developed using PHP, HTML and tweaks to the CSS. I am currently developing a page where other Grant Krugers (they are out there) can add their information, which will use PHP with a MySQL database.
Ongoing and Future Projects
I am working on two projects with Pridemore Design, where I will make use of Drupal, and possibly PHP and MySQL if needed.
I am using Drupal to create a community web page for a volunteer-run group.
I am learning Ruby on Rails from an experienced programmer who runs his own software company. I expect more to come from this relationship and will soon elaborate on progress in this area.
This is all ramp-up and I will expand this considerably as I get to the point were I'm actively pulling in freelance work.
